Pediatric Hepatitis

In the past 6 weeks, 650 (of which 222 in the UK and 216 in the US) probable cases of acute hepatitis of unknown etiology in children have been reported to WHO. Some of these cases are more clinically severe and a higher proportion develops acute liver failure (38 cases requiring transplant) compared with previous reports of acute hepatitis of unknown etiology in children.

Target Audience

This activity is intended for physicians, nurses and advanced practice providers throughout Mass General Brigham

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. To establish the role of viral infections (other than Hepatitis virus A-E) in causing the surge of acute hepatitis in children
  2. To discuss the possible reason(s) of this surge related to the COVID-19 pandemic
