Motivational Interviewing Interactive Practice Sessions
LIVE SESSIONS
THURSDAY, MAY 27, 2021 AND THURSDAY, JUNE 3, 2021
As with any skill, achieving proficiency in motivational interviewing requires practice and feedback.
The MI Interactive Practice Sessions is a skill building program that will focus on interactive activities and practice.
This is a foundation to enhancing the application of motivational interviewing.
This course is delivered over 2 non-consecutive days and registration is to attend both days.
Participants are expected to attend the entire program, two sessions, each held from 8:50 AM to 3 PM.
CEU credits are provided for the entire program. Partial credit will not be provided.
To complete the enrollment you must complete the pre-requisite entitled A Tour of Motivational Interviewing: An Inter-Professional Road Map for Behavior Change (https://attcnetwork.org/node/2892).
Estimated time to complete the prerequisite is 4-5 hours
Upon finishing the above stated pre-requisite course, a certificate of completion is generated and registrants must manually submit this by the stated due date.
Target Audience
Embedded Population Health and Quality & Patient Experience Staff at the RSO and Primary Care Practices within the Mass General Brigham network.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this training participants will be able to:
- Describe how to integrate the spirit, principles and processes of motivational interviewing into current counseling practices
- Demonstrate increased proficiency and confidence in the use of the micro-skills of motivational interviewing
- Identify a plan and resources to support continued improvement in the use of motivational interviewing skills

Denise Jolicoeur, MPH, CHES
Faculty Bio
Denise is a retired program director in Division of Preventive and Behavioral Medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. During her 18 year tenure she managed the internationally recognized UMass Tobacco Treatment Specialist (TTS) training program and continues to serve as an instructor in the program. She joined the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers in 2008 and is trained in the use of the Motivational Interviewing Treatment Integrity (MITI) Coding System. Denise conducts training in motivational interviewing with a variety of participants including tobacco treatment specialists and Head Start staff. She holds a BA in Social and Rehabilitation Services, a Master of Public Health degree and is a Certified Health Education Specialist.
Participation, NASW and BORN certification is provided upon successful completion of the both days. Partial credit will not be provided.
