“When Grief Shows Up in Pharmacy Practice"

Target Audience

This activity is intended for all clinical, operational, and administrative pharmacists in inpatient, outpatient, and ambulatory care settings as well as all pharmacy technicians working inpatient and outpatient.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Examine patient and caregiver encounters for common and subtle manifestations of grief across the healthcare continuum.
  2. Interpret how unrecognized grief may influence medication use, healthcare interactions, and self-management.
  3. Apply communication techniques that acknowledge and validate grief while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
  4. Develop a grief-informed approach to routine pharmacy care that incorporates recognition, validation, support, and referral when appropriate.
