Description
The presentation will focus on the epidemiology and risk factors impacting HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders (HAND) and other dementias in ART-treated individuals with HIV over age 50. It will also focus on current HIV clinical guidelines related to cognitive disorders, areas of active research to identify blood, cerebrospinal fluid and imaging biomarkers and define critical gaps in our understanding and treatment of cognitive disorders among an aging HIV population

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Integrate screening tools into practice to identify the spectrum of HIV-Associated Neurocognitive Disorders.
- Describe the interplay of psychiatric diagnoses including depression and substance use disorder in diagnosis of neurocognitive disease.
- Utilize the CNS Penetration Effectiveness (CPE) score to optimize ART regimens in HIV CNS viral escape.

Shibani Mukerji, MD, PhD
Associate Director of the Neuroinfectious Diseases Unit
Massachusetts General Hospital
Dr. Shibani Mukerji is a board-certified neurologist and the Associate Director of the Neuroinfectious Diseases Unit at Massachusetts General Hospital. She is an M.D and Ph.D. graduate of Case Western Reserve School of Medicine, and holds a master's degree in translational science from Harvard School of Medicine. Dr. Mukerji received specialized clinical training in the neurological management of infectious diseases from the Partners (Massachusetts General Hospital/Brigham and Women's Hospital) residency and fellowship programs and sees patients living with HIV infection. Her research focuses on computational methods to integrate patient-derived data including clinical, laboratory, neuroimaging, and metabolite profiling to longitudinally model cognitive decline and persistent depressive symptoms in treated HIV-infected adults. She has additionally studied risk factors impacting HIV-1 RNA detection in cerebrospinal fluid among people with HIV infection. Dr. Mukerji is supported by funds from the National Institutes of Mental Health and Center for AIDS Research.
