Intimate Partner Violence: Screening and Responding to Disclosure

With many rules and processes in the day-to-day work of the primary care provider/practice staff, there is heightened concern over screening effectively for Intimate Partner Violence (IPV). This concern creates a barrier to responding safely, with compassion, and with awareness to disclosure by the patient. Like most screenings, there is a need to make sure that the provider/practice staff is confident enough to address this area and provide resources and a sense of safety.

For primary care sites that leverage the Primary Care bundle, it will include the IPV question in the latter half of 2022.

This will allow patients to answer this via Patient Gateway and/or iPads in the waiting room. Like the other questions within the bundle, primary care staff would then review any positive responses with the patient during their appointment.

This training will support the Primary Care provider/practice staff in addressing such responses. To build confidence and help them reframe the "fix it" mindset to compassionate education.
