Art Museum-based Health Professions Education Fellowship

The Art Museum-based Health Professions Education Fellowship prepares participants to be leaders in art-museum based health professions education (MBE-HP). Fellows develop pedagogical skills in MBE-HP and learn innovative ways to use art and the art museum to advance health professions educational goals, skills and attitudes.  Fellows become part of a community that is deeply sustaining both professionally and personally. In this highly experiential Fellowship participants learn by doing followed by reflection. They will be introduced to and practice core pedagogical methods used in art museum-based education, including Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS), the Personal Responses Tour, Thinking Routines, Narrative Writing, as well as explorations of other art forms, metaphor, and mindful practice.

A cornerstone of the Fellowship is the development of a museum-based health professions educational curricular project. Project development is supported by structured monthly meetings and coaching from course directors and graduates of previous cohorts.

In-person course dates for the 2024/2025 cohort will be October 18–20, 2024 and April 4–6, 2025. All Fellows must be able to attend the in-person sessions. Between October and April, we meet once a month virtually. Fee includes interdisciplinary teaching sessions with museum and health professions educators, museum admission, and materials. It does not include travel or lodging for your stays in Boston. This fellowship is presented in partnership with the Center for Visual Arts in Healthcare at Brigham & Women’s Hospital.
