
Sleep Health at Every Age: Assessment and Management

This program will cover best practices for managing sleep disorders across the lifespan. Expert presenters from MGB will cover the importance of evaluation and treatment of sleep issues. Panelists will discuss effective therapies that include behavioral approaches, device-based therapies, medications, and surgical interventions. The program will include case-based learning focused on multidisciplinary and collaborative approaches to caring for patients with sleep disorders. There will be a Q&A with MGB presenters and local providers.
Target Audience
This course in intended for Bermudian general practitioners, family practitioners, family medicine specialists, pediatricians, pulmonary specialists, dental professions treating sleep disordered breathing, public health professions.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Define sleep and identify its disorders.
- Summarize cornerstones of good sleep.
- Develop an approach to diagnose sleep disturbances.
- Decide on treatment of sleep disorders or referral to subspecialty clinics.

![]() | James Mojica, MD - Course Director Pulmonary, Sleep, and Critical Care Medicine Clinical Director and Vice Chief, Division of PCCM MGH Distinguished Physician, Massachusetts General Hospital Medical Director, The Sleep Center at Spaulding Dr Mojica received his BA in Biology from the University of Chicago. He received his MD from Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons and completed training in Internal Medicine in the Columbia campus of the New York Presbyterian Hospital, where he served as a Chief Resident. Dr Mojica completed fellowship training in the Harvard Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Program and subsequently sought subspecialty training in Sleep Disorders. He completed a Sleep Medicine Fellowship in the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center site of the Harvard Medical School's Division of Sleep Medicine. He is the Medical Director of the Sleep Center at Spaulding and his clinical practice includes Sleep Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, Lung Transplant Medicine, and Critical Care Medicine. |

![]() | Phillip Huyett, MD Dr. Phillip Huyett is a dual board-certified otolaryngologist with specialized training in sleep medicine and surgery. His primary clinical interest lies in providing comprehensive care to patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and snoring. His training consists of a residency in otolaryngology–head and neck surgery at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center followed by fellowship training in sleep medicine at University of Southern California/Children's Hospital of Los Angeles, which incorporated advanced surgical interventions for OSA. Dr. Huyett’s major research interests fall broadly into three categories: (1) the integration of surgical and non-surgical strategies for optimizing existing therapies for OSA, (2) strategies to improve the perioperative safety of patients with OSA, and (3) phenotyping/endotyping patients with OSA using polysomnographic and endoscopic predictors for proper surgical and non-surgical therapy selection, including hypoglossal nerve stimulation.

![]() | David T Martin, MD, FRCP David Martin is the Medical Director of the International Patient Services Division of the Mass General Brigham System, and Vice-Chair in the Department of Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. Dr Martin trained in medicine at University College London and the Royal London Hospitals in England, and in cardiology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He maintains an active academic practice of clinical cardiac electrophysiology and attends in general cardiology and internal medicine at BWH. He is a Master of the American College of Physicians and has received the Brigham and Women’s Hospital’s Distinguished Clinician Award. During his training in the UK and the US, Dr Martin worked as a locum GP in Bermuda and has developed a deep affection for the Island and its medical community. He continues to be a regular visitor and works to leverage the resources of Mass General Brigham in the service of optimal medical care for all Bermudians. Dr Martin is also the President of Project Pacer International, a Boston-based charity providing cardiology care to indigent patients around the world. In this capacity he has a 30-year history of working in Bolivia managing patients with complex cardiac problems resulting from Chagas disease. This work was recognized in 2021 by the honor of the Heart Rhythm Society’s Global Humanitarian Award. |
