2026 Hampton Abrams Symposium

April 3, 2026

The Hampton Abrams Symposium is designed to educate practicing radiologists and radiology trainees about advancements in the field of medicine and imaging. Faculty of Harvard Medical School will give lectures. Topics selected seek to educate attendees on recent advances in imaging technology. The title for this year's course theme is “The Augmented Radiologist: AI, Automation & Human Expertise” and seeks to present new technologies being developed and their clinical applications. All speakers are well known in their respective fields and have been speakers at recent national and international radiology conferences.

The symposium is designed to improve learner knowledge so that participating radiologists can apply new strategies in their clinical practice, thereby improving performance in practice.  This year’s theme will allow learners to acquire knowledge in regard to advances in AI.

Target Audience

This activity is intended for radiologists.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the current and emerging applications of artificial intelligence and automation across the radiology imaging value chain, including diagnostic interpretation, workflow optimization, reporting, education, and communication.
  2. Explain the principles of AI development, validation, and performance assessment, including key considerations for clinical effectiveness, safety, and cost-value in radiology practice.
  3. Evaluate the strengths and limitations of AI-enabled tools using evidence-based criteria to determine appropriate clinical and educational use.
  4. Apply strategies for integrating AI technologies into radiology workflows in a manner that augments human expertise and supports high-quality, patient-centered care.
  5. Identify opportunities to leverage AI tools to improve radiology education, trainee assessment, reporting quality, and operational efficiency.
  6. Incorporate ethical, regulatory, and professional considerations into decision-making related to the adoption and use of AI in radiology.
