Adolescents & the National Overdose Crisis

This course will equip interdisciplinary clinicians to prevent, identify, and treat substance use disorders in adolescents with a focus on opioids and opioid use disorder.

Target Audience

This activity is intended for practitioners with a DEA registration to prescribe controlled substances (ie. any clinician with prescriptive authority - MD, DO, APRN, PA, CRNA, etc).

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the epidemiology of substance use-related harm in the US, with a focus on adolescents & young adults ("youths").
  2. Prescribe opioids in a manner that redces the likelihood of risk for long-term opiod use and addiction.
  3. Employ evidence-based screening & treatment for youth with substance use disorders.
  4. Integrate interdisciplinary team members into the care of youth with substance use disorders.
