Affirming Gender Diversity in our Healthcare System: Challenges and Solutions
Description
This presentation will first set a foundation of gender and gender diversity definitions and concepts within a gender expansive framework. The presentation will illustrate the unique health care experiences of gender diverse individuals and identify barriers to equitable health care. This will be achieved through specific vignettes and case studies/examples of challenges encountered by gender diverse patients in our healthcare system, with some focus on radiology/imaging and also including vignettes/examples from outside radiology. Finally, this presentation will endeavor to propose strategies and solutions to create a more inclusive and welcoming environment for gender diverse individuals both within radiology across role groups, and in the broader healthcare setting.
Target Audience
This activity is intended for Radiologists, other medical staff, and trainees.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Define concepts and terminology regarding gender diversity within a gender expansive (non-binary) framework.
- Recognize the unique health care experiences of a gender diverse individuals and identify barriers to equitable health care.
- Propose strategies and solutions to create a more inclusive and welcoming environment for gender diverse individuals in healthcare.
