BWH Interdisciplinary Balint Groups to Achieve Values Alignment
This seminar series will implement Balint groups among physicians from primary care, endocrinology & psychaitry as an intervention to reduce burnout and improve professional fulfillment. A Balint group is a methodology of convening physicians to discuss clinical cases & focus on enahnching their ability to understand and improve the doctor-patient relationship. Discussions are facilitated by Balint leaders, who will help participants feel comfortable sharing their experiences, and in the process, uncover both shared & divergent feelings and perceptions. This seminar series will improve participants' communication skills, empathy & overall well-being while reducing professional dissoance and burnout.
Target Audience
This activity is intended for practicing faculty from the divisions of psychiatry, primary care & endocrinology at Brigham & Women’s Hospital. Primary Care and Endocrinology faculty include physicians. Psychiatry faculty includes physicians and psychologists.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Develop better communication skills
- Empathize more with their patients & colleagues
- Reflect on their professional career with a more positive attitude & reduced burnout
- Demonstrate reduced stress & anxiety
