Dr. J. Robert Shaughnessy PM&R Research & Education Day 2024
Rehabilitation encompasses medical and nursing care and the care given by rehabilitation therapists (physical, occupational, speech, and recreational therapy), mental health professionals, and vocational specialists. Rehabilitation also involves patient and family-physician interaction; interdisciplinary teamwork and leadership; knowledge and utilization of resources; and teaching directed towards patients, other healthcare disciplines (team members), and in academic settings, medical students, residents, other faculty/staff physicians, and researchers. Physiatrists have to continually update their knowledge base in all of these areas pertaining to the patient populations they care for to maintain competence and maximize performance. Due to the accelerating numbers of research publications and resources, it can be challenging to keep abreast of all the new developments, even in one’s specialized area of expertise. This activity will expand rehabilitation education for practitioners.
Target Audience
This activity is intended for physicians, Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, and Physicians Assistants within Mass General Brigham.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Appraise the literature on medical aspects of physical medicine and rehabilitation.
- Describe methods for improving mobility in physical medicine and rehabilitation.
- Discuss the influence of psychosocial issues in physical medicine and rehabilitation.
- Describe epidemiological aspects of physical medicine and rehabilitation.
