All incoming trainees are oriented to BWH clinical and information systems and resources, as well as institutional priorities.
2026 Orientation Dates & Locations
The GME Office will be hosting several institutional orientation sessions to provide flexibility for all GME trainees starting a residency or fellowship program to attend. These sessions provide an important touchpoint for conveying key messages with an opportunity for trainees to come together across specialties and meet hospital leaders.
All interns, residents, and clinical fellows in both accredited and non-accredited training programs are required to attend the hospital orientation.
The sessions are tailored to certain groups as shown below:
- June 16
- New grads/PGY-1’s (Interns) — IN PERSON at Bornstein Amphitheater
- July 1
- PGY2(+) Residents and Clinical Fellows — via Zoom
- August 3
- Intern, Residents, and Clinical Fellows* — via Zoom
*This session is open to any incoming trainee who was unable to attend the session tailored to their clinical appointment. (GME and Benefits ONLY presentations)
Health Screening
All incoming Trainees/Residents/Fellows must provide documentation to meet the Mass General Brigham infection control requirements and receive Occupational Health Service (OHS) Medical Clearance prior to their start date.
OHS will not send Health Screening Requirements/Forms to trainees/residents/clinical fellows.
The trainee will receive an email from Service Now Okta (noreply@okta). Okta is the Mass General Brigham pre-boarding portal used by all new employees. The trainee will automatically receive the email once the onboarding has been completed in Workday.
Once the trainee submits the Health Screening Requirements, OHS will notify the trainee (via the portal) that the health screening is complete or provide the next steps to include a list of what is needed to complete the health screening.
OHS will review all documents and provide OHS medical clearance to trainees prior to the GME orientation dates.
Clearance status is automatically sent to the trainee and the Workday requester.

- Immunization Requirements

2026 GME Health Screening and Occupational Health
Important due dates
- June start dates: Submit the requirements by May 1st, 2026
- July start dates: Submit the requirements by June 5th, 2026
Helpful reminders for trainees
- Trainees can access all details about the pre-boarding requirements, view tasks for completion, and upload all documentation directly in the portal.
- It is important to complete the OHS requirements as soon as possible, as OHS may need to order labs for them which must be completed prior to the start date. Note: OHS will not pay for labs obtained from any outside labs.
- Remember to keep track of the login details as you will need them to access the portal.
- If you experience issues accessing your pre-boarding case or require additional support, please email Occupational Health at [email protected].
- Most trainees will not need an in-person appointment (exception for trainees needing a required vaccine).
- Trainee must be entered in Workday before an appointment can be scheduled or documents reviewed.
- Incoming anesthesia trainees/residents/fellows will need a drug test screening before clearance is given.
Rotating residents/clinical fellows
Once all Mass General Brigham OHS requirements have been met, the trainee may receive a "Health Clearance sticker" for their ID badge. The sticker indicates that the trainee rotating to other institutions meets OHS Clearance Requirements at:
- Mass General Brigham system: Mass General Brigham system: All Mass General Brigham affiliates, including Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital, Mass General, Newton-Wellesley Hospital, Salem Hospital, McLean, Spaulding Rehabilitation, Cooley Dickinson Hospital, Wentworth Douglass Hospital, and Mass Eye and Ear
- Dana-Farber Cancer Institute
- Boston Children’s Hospital
- Beth Israel Lahey Health
- Boston Medical Center
- Tufts Medical Center
- Harvard Medical School
We have implemented a simpler process: one sticker and done. The Trainee will not need a yearly sticker. Previous stickers can be used to show clearance status. Only Residents and Fellows who are rotating need a sticker.
Current and rotating BWH Residents/Fellows that have met the Mass General Brigham OHS infection control standards may email [email protected] to request a sticker.
