ForwardMGB Anesthesiology Faculty Education Retreat 2026
This is a live, in-person activity.
This half-day, in-person faculty retreat for the MGB Anesthesiology Department brings faculty together to strengthen how they teach, give feedback, and develop the next generation of anesthesiologists. Through four interactive sessions, faculty will explore how generational differences in values shape interactions with trainees and learn concrete moves for bridging them; practice delivering equitable, growth-oriented feedback that holds all trainees to consistent standards while interrupting both bias and avoidance; build debriefing skills using an advocacy–inquiry approach to surface learners' reasoning and tailor teaching; and examine why modern advances in safety, technology, and efficiency can constrain the development of adaptive expertise, along with strategies to deliberately design training that preserves it. The retreat is designed to give faculty a shared, contemporary framework for effective clinical teaching, feedback, and mentorship.
Target Audience
This activity is intended for the faculty of the Mass General Brigham Anesthesiology Department (ie. attending physicians, and clinician-educators across MGH & BWH sites).
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Apply a framework for interpreting trainee behavior through both traditional and contemporary lenses, and identify concrete bridging moves to navigate value collisions across generations.
- Deliver equitable, growth-oriented feedback that holds all trainees to consistent standards while interrupting both implicit bias and avoidance.
- Apply a structured advocacy–inquiry debriefing approach (e.g., “I think, I saw, I wonder”) to explore learners' frames and tailor feedback in clinical teaching.
- Identify the cognitive conditions required for adaptive expertise and apply concrete strategies to design training that preserves both modern gains and adaptive expertise.
- Collaborate as a faculty team to apply consistent, equitable teaching and feedback practices across sites and trainee groups (team-oriented objective).

Participant completion for MOC points will be reported to the boards when credit is awarded for the session.
MOC points can only be awarded if you attended the entire session.

Upon successful completion of this activity, if you wish to receive MOC Part 2 points you will need to enter your ABA ID number and birthday (month/day) in your profile. The Mass General Brigham Office of Continuing Professional Development will verify completion of the activity and report to the ABA. Diplomates are responsible for checking their ABA Portfolio for confirmation of MOC Part 2 points.
