MGH Prenatal Diagnosis Conference- Obstetrical Imaging and Beyond 2024-2025: Archive

Description

This activity provides on-demand archived lectures from the MGH Prenatal Diagnosis Conference- Obstetrical Imaging and Beyond 2024-2025 series. This multi-disciplinary conference with interplay of numerous specialists and subspecialists will discuss prenatal ultrasound findings, differential diagnosis, genetic testing algorithms,  prenatal management, and postnatal outcome in a purposeful patient focused environment.

The physicians included are specialists and subspecialists representing obstetrician-gynecologists, maternal fetal medicine (MFM) clinicians, neonatologists, pediatric subspecialists (cardiologists, radiologists, neurologists, geneticists, and surgeons). The conference also includes maternal fetal medicine sonographers, genetic  counselors, nurses, and others  who care for our uniquely diverse patient population (pregnant patient and fetus)  and may share their respective expertise to shed light on optimal management of difficult and complex clinical problems.

Target Audience

This activity is intended for Physicians of various specialties, MFM obstetrical sonographers, Genetic counselors, Nurses with vested patient care interests and Allied support (Spiritual care, Palliative care, Cleft or Prosthetic teams) with specialties of Obstetrician-Gynecologists, Maternal Fetal Medicine sonologists (MD/DO) and sonographers (RDMS), Neonatologists and Pediatric geneticists (MD/DO) and genetic counselors (MS, CGC), Pediatric subspecialists:  cardiology, radiology, neurology, nephrology, surgeons (urology/thoracic/cardiac/orthopedic), and any subspecialty area that will be part of a multidisciplinary team to care for the neonate after birth, Allied support care teams including orofacial cleft and prosthetic support teams, spiritual care providers and palliative care clinicians and Perinatal pathologists (MD/DO)

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Critically evaluate the quality of  prenatal ultrasound imaging studies in an objective structured manner. For example:   Were all the relevant images obtained? Were the images of sufficient quality to lead and refine a diagnosis?  If not, what could be done to improve image quality? Were resources available to help the primary/secondary imager maximize the ultrasound technologies available to them?
  2. Understand and communicate the advanced genetic diagnostic tests that may apply to the phenotype reported by the ultrasound results. Recognize the limitations of genetic testing and next generation sequencing in terms of anticipated ‘positive’ results, turn-around time, and cost.  Solicit evidence-based contributions with pediatric specialists (genetics, neonatologists) regarding information that may be helpful in counseling and prognosis for the pregnancy.
  3. Compare and contrast similar congenital anomalies. Solicit evidence-based contributions with pediatric specialists (neonatologist, cardiologists, neurologists, surgeons) regarding optimal patient management (e.g. timing, route, and location of delivery).
  4. Develop obstetrical ultrasound imaging protocols for common anomalies. What should be evaluated for a specific condition, what interval of follow-up is recommended?  Expand protocols for genetic counseling and recommendations for diagnostic testing.  Review of existing protocols when new information about any specific condition becomes available.
  5. Propose research aimed at improving prenatal diagnosis  and management of congenital malformations.
