NWH Hospitalist Simulation 2021 Series on April 22, 2021

April 22, 2021

These Sessions will be multidisciplinary scenario-based simulations for commonly-encountered situations on medical and surgical floors, as well as a proposed stepdown unit. The primary objective for these first sessions will be to learn the indications, usage and potential pitfalls of stepdown unit-specific medications (e.g., amiodarone infusion), with an additional objective focusing on multidisciplinary team-based communication skills. Currently, there are six planned sessions, each lasting 2.5 hours. Hospitalists need only attend one session.

Target Audience

This activity is intended for MDs and PAs in the Newton-Wellesley Hospital Service

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify a scenario that may require a stepdown unit-specific intervention (e.g. medication infusion).
  2. Demonstrate familiarity with managing patients on infusions that are specific to the stepdown unit (e.g. amiodarone).
  3. Identify adverse clinical events that may occur as a result if these interventions, and how to manage those situations.
