This presentation will describe the history of legislation and federal standards regarding sterile/non-sterile compounding, and help outline different classifications and safe handling of hazardous drugs

This activity is intended for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Interpret how events in the history of US pharmacy impact federal laws regarding sterile and nonsterile compounding.
- Summarize federal standards regarding regulations of compounders, types of products that can be compounded and distributed, bulk compounded substances, documentation, labeling, and adverse event reporting.
- Identify changes to USP <795> and <797> that will be implemented by November 2023.
- Identify low-risk and high-risk hazardous drugs and characteristics that make them hazardous.
- Describe strategies for safe handling and disposal of low-risk and high-risk hazardous drugs.
