Description

On the heels of the devastating surge of infections, hospitalizations and deaths due to the COVID-19 pandemic, mental health experts are sounding the alarm about a second, more insidious surge on the way: an anticipated wave of behavioral health issues, unhealthy coping and domestic violence.

Chief among those behavioral health issues is anxiety. Fear of contracting the virus as well as of coping with the pandemic’s fallout has already led to an increase in calls to doctor’s offices and visits to respiratory illness clinics. Anxiety also can manifest in physical symptoms, which in turn can bring people in for unnecessary testing and heighten the cycle of anxiety.

Renowned health anxiety expert Arthur Barsky, MD, will discuss how health anxiety may present during the pandemic and how providers can identify and manage it.
