DESCRIPTION

This one hour online presentation will discuss the history of myofascial pain and the currently understanding of the pathophysiology leading to development of muscular pain and trigger point injections. In addition as a treatment modality we will discuss trigger point injections, how they work and when to use in practice.


LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Learn the history of our understanding of myofascial pain
  2. Understand basic pathophysiology in the development of myofascial pain
  3. Recognize trigger point injections as a treatment option for patient with myofascial pain

TARGET AUDIENCE

This program is intended for Physicians and other clinical staff at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital.

FACULTY

Carina O'Neill, DO
Medical Director, Spaulding Outpatient Center - Braintree

Dr. O’Neill has served as the Medical Director at Spaulding Outpatient Center in Braintree for the last 11 years. She is a specialist and board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.  She completed her residency at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital/Harvard Medical School Program. Undergraduate training was completed at Syracuse University and she attended medical school at The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-School of Osteopathic Medicine, now named Rowan School of Osteopathic Medicine.   Her clinical interests include musculoskeletal rehab with a focus in myofascial pain, trigger point injections and Osteopathic Manual Medicine.     In addition to serving as Medical Director at Spaulding-Braintree, she is also an instructor at Harvard Medical School.
