DESCRIPTION

This one hour online presentation will discuss how recent innovations in neural interfacing have merged with reconstructive surgery with biomechatronics to offer advanced neuroprosthetic control and feedback. By using a holistic approach to restore function, we can better integrate human physiology with synthetic devices. This presentation will cover new advances in optogenetics for peripheral limb control and a platform of surgical strategies that avail proprioception for amputees.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Understanding of emerging reconstructive surgical strategies for amputation that enable advanced neural interfacing with active prostheses.
  2. Integrate concepts in sensory feedback through neural interfaces and optogenetic techniques.
  3. Identify the current limitations in bidirectional neural interfacing.

TARGET AUDIENCE

This program is intended for Physicians and other clinical staff at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital.
