Session 2: December 11, 2020
This series of 5 virtual workshop sessions will provide a year-long exploration of issues related to diversity, inclusion and equity for the Department of Psychiatry at Brigham and Women's Hospital. VISIONS consultants will introduce a framework for understanding how race and gender microaggressions in clinical and department interactions have the potential to maintain structural inequalities. Sessions will offer guidelines for creating safety and candor in conversations across lines of difference, invite participants to articulate the diversity, inclusion and equity issues they hope to address throughout the year, and explore how the Modern “Isms” framework can be helpful in addressing subtle - often unintentional - expressions of discrimination and their impacts.
Target Audience
This activity is intended for LCSWs/LICSWs, MDs, PhDs, residents, fellows, other clinical staff as well as administrative staff who interface with diverse patient populations in a variety of therapeutic settings.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Discuss a broader perspective on group identity, inclusion & exclusion
- Review & practice skills for addressing group differences
- Examine how multiple forms of systemic inequalities and their intersections complicate clinical interactions and intra-departmental problem solving
