Mass General Brigham is a provider of Joint Accreditation for Interprofessional Continuing Education. The certification was granted through November 2025 by the governing bodies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education, the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education and the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Accreditation Program.

Traditionally, these CPD opportunities have been siloed. Physicians take courses designed for physicians, nurses take courses designed for nurses, etc. In contrast, Joint Accreditation promotes interprofessional continuing education (IPCE) activities specifically designed to improve team collaboration in healthcare delivery. IPCE is when members from two or more professions learn with, from and about each other to enable effective collaboration and improve health outcomes.

As a Joint Accreditation provider, Mass General Brigham can now provide professional development systemwide with accompanying credit for any single discipline or combination of physicians, nurses, pharmacists, physician assistants, dentists, psychologists, optometrists, social workers, dieticians and athletic trainers. As a result, at least 25% of all educational activities will be geared toward learners from across multiple professions. The planning committee for each offering will be required to have interprofessional representation as well. Moving forward, we will also work to align IPCE with emerging models of healthcare delivery across the system.
