Course Description

eCare (EPIC®) is critical to maintaining patient safety at Mass General.  It reduces the chance of medication errors, improves communication between providers, and ensures that patients receive appropriate and timely care. Continuous improvement of eCare is essential to ensure patient safety, improve usability and efficiency, incorporate new clinical knowledge, and ensure regulatory compliance.

Please join Bijay Acharya, MD, MPH, FACP, to learn how to prioritize and make changes to Epic to help mitigate patient safety risks.  Participants will learn how eCare enhancements are designed with human factors in mind, opportunities for improvement, and the limitations of eCare.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe ways in which eCare helps ensure patient safety at Mass General
  2. Discuss the process used at MGH to make changes to Epic when a patient safety risk is identified
  3. Describe limitations of eCare

Target Audience

This activity is intended for members of the Quality and Patient Safety Committee (QPSC) and staff they work with who will benefit from the training.
