DESCRIPTION:
It is critical for radiology practices to know how to provide a safe, affirming, and inclusive care environment for gender diverse patients such as transgender patients. This presentation will provide an overview of this patient population, review the challenges they face when engaging with the healthcare system in general and with imaging-based care, and use a structured patient experience mapping framework to identify barriers to undergoing imaging exams along each step of the patient journey.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Define commonly used terminology related to a gender diverse patient population.
- Review current challenges faced by gender diverse patients when engaging with healthcare systems.
- Use a patient experience mapping framework to identify challenges faced by gender diverse patients during their patient journeys through imaging-based care.
TARGET AUDIENCE:
This activity is intended for all Massachusetts General Hospital clinicians interested in learning tactics and best practices for patient experience related discussions.
