Description

This one hour online presentation will discuss clinical hypnosis. It has been shown to facilitate beneficial physiological changes as well as psychological improvements in myriad psychological, behavioral, and medical applications. This presentation provides an introduction to the phenomenology of hypnosis and an overview of its many flexible applications in clinical treatment.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

1. Identify three different areas in which hypnotic interventions can be use adjunctively to enhance medical and psychological treatment.
2. Describe two common misconceptions about clinical hypnosis.
3. Recognize the distinction between toxic versus helpful verbalizations in clinical interactions.

This program is intended for Physicians and other clinical staff at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital.

Faculty

Carol Ginandes, PhD, ABPP

Carol Ginandes, PhD, ABPP, is a health psychologist in the Boston area. In her practice, she integrates hypnosis and psychotherapy to address a variety of mind-body issues. She holds a staff appointment at Harvard Medical School -McLean Hospital where she offers training and supervision. Her clinical research is in the area of hypnotically facilitated healing. In addition to her written publications, she has created various medical hypnosis audio programs including: preparation for surgery, recovery from injury, reduction of allergic reactivity, moderating hypertension, utilizing hypnotic core rest, and alleviating tinnitus and TMJ. She is also a fine art photographer and a former yoga instructor.
