The Foundations of AI in Healthcare course is a five-session continuing medical education (CME) program designed to equip providers, nurses, and staff with a foundational understanding of artificial intelligence and its safe, effective, and ethical use across clinical, administrative, and research settings. Participants will gain essential knowledge, practical skills, and strategies for integrating AI tools into workflows while maintaining clinical oversight, patient trust, and compliance with institutional and regulatory standards.

Target Audience

This activity is intended for healthcare providers (clinicians, nurses, APPs), researchers, and staff across Mass General Brigham. 

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Describe how AI can support research activities such as literature review, data extraction, and hypothesis generation.
  • Identify approved, secure environments for using AI in research and the ethical and regulatory considerations required for compliance.
  • Discuss specialty-specific examples of AI use in research, including applications in areas such as radiology.
  • Apply course concepts through a capstone group exercise to evaluate AI tools or propose AI-enabled research workflows in alignment with organizational guidelines.
