Financial Stewardship of Grants and Contracts
Welcome to the second module of the Mass General Brigham PI Education Series, Financial Stewardship of Grants and Contracts.
When the hospital and PI accept funds from an external sponsor, they agree to play by the sponsor’s rules. The hospital becomes the steward not the owner of the funds entrusted to them. Management of these funds at all levels of the Mass General Brigham system must be able to withstand public scrutiny.
Sponsors, especially federal agencies, are increasingly holding PIs, not just grantee institutions, accountable for financial decisions. Thus, our goal for this module is to provide PIs with an overview of basic sponsor, federal, and Mass General Brigham policies to help them comply with all financial requirements.
