Patient Safety Awareness Week Keynote Talk
Patient Safety Awareness Week Keynote Talk:
“Circle Up”: Workflow Adaptation and Psychological Support via Briefing, Debriefing, and Peer Support
Date: Thursday, March 18, 2021
Time: 12:00 – 1:00 pm
Location: Zoom/Livestream
Description
The Covid-19 pandemic has exposed and exacerbated the stresses that frontline health care workers encounter on the job. Mass General recently began implementing a process called “Circle Up,” which creates a regular time and place for problem-solving and connection, to promote better communication and improve the psychological well-being of care teams. Participants report greater interprofessional peer connectedness and less psychological distress. They feel encouraged to speak up more throughout the day and with colleagues they would not normally approach. Circle Up offers a proactive, rather than reactive, process of peer support.
Target Audience
This activity is intended for all Mass General Brigham employees.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Cite the three primary activities involved in the Circle Up framework
- Describe ways in which implementing Circle Up can help reduce psychological harm to healthcare workers
- Describe the process of implementing Circle Up into interprofessional on-shift team briefings
