Join us for an engaging presentation about the impact of racism on health and wellbeing, and how you can support patients who experience discrimination. The discussion will provide guidance on how to have conversations about differences and discrimination with patients of all ages and include several resources available for support
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Name an example of the negative health consequences of racism
- Describe how to screen for experiences of racism or discrimination in the healthcare setting
- List one tool to help an individual cope with experiences of racism
- Identify one resource to support individuals impacted by racism
Target Audience:
This activity is intended for all Massachusetts General Hospital clinicians interested in learning tactics and best practices for patient experience related discussions

Dr. Gracia Kwete is a primary care pediatrician at the Massachusetts General Hospital for Children (MGHfC). In addition to her clinical practice at the MGH Revere Healthcare Center, she is an associate director of diversity and equity at MGHfC and the assistant medical editor of CARMA (Child and Adolescent Resource Materials), a patient education intranet site for general pediatricians.
Carlos Torres, MD

Dr. Carlos Torres M.D. is a pediatrician at MGH Chelsea HealthCare Center and a faculty advisor at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Torres was born and raised in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. He moved with his family to Milwaukee, Wisconsin during his teenage years, afterwards attending the University of Wisconsin-Madison and earned his Bachelor of Science in Psychology. He ventured out to attend medical school on the East Coast at Harvard Medical School, then attended pediatric residency at Mass General Hospital for Children and served as a chief resident. His clinical/research interest include immigrant health, disparity research, LGBT health, and resiliency.
