Description:

Join us for an engaging presentation by Stuart Ablon, PhD, Founder and Director of Think:Kids at Massachusetts General Hospital, on turning compliance into collaboration.  Traditional concepts in medicine place a heavy emphasis on ensuring compliance with directives. Dr. Ablon will explain how behavior and compliance is determined by skill, not will. This paradigm shift is at the heart of Dr. Ablon’s work and why Malcolm Gladwell, Adam Grant, Dan Pink and Susan Cain hand-picked his latest book, Changeable, for their Next Big Idea Club. Dr. Ablon’s evidence-based approach, Collaborative Problem Solving, combines this shift in thinking with actionable strategies proven to increase compliance, build skills, decrease stress and improve relationships in our patients and ourselves.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify why compliance is determined by skill, not will.
  2. Assess the types of neurocognitive skills required to behave in a compliant fashion.
  3. Recognize the basic steps to practice the collaborative problem-solving process.

Target Audience:

This activity is intended for all Massachusetts General Hospital clinicians interested in learning tactics and best practices for patient experience related discussions
