Having been a critical care nurse the majority of my career and spending the majority of the day at my bedspace, I never realized what was going on around me.  Being in the outpatient department, I have seen such instances and must admit that I have not spoken up when I should have.  I think trainings such as this will help those who would like to speak up, but fear retribution from co-workers or supervisors.

This training allowed me to better understand perspectives different from mine and has increased my awareness of how different people's experiences at our institutions can be.

I agree this course was very resourceful. I think its very import to speak up on behalf of our coworkers in these types of situations.

This course was very well put together, including people of varying ethnic and cultural backgrounds and specialties throughout the hospital. I really liked the choices we had to choose how we responded in certain situations. Well done!

It's hard for all parties and takes daily practice and decision to be mindful of others and do the right thing. Couldn't agree more to what they said in the training.

Yoko Hisano replied on

I couldn't agree more. It takes daily practice and decision to speak up as well as support others.

Like the cardiology chief in this video, I have been in the position of not speaking up as a person higher in the hierarchy when patients make inappropriate comments to colleagues based on their race or ethnicity. It was meaningful to see a depiction of such a scenario from an onlooker's perspective, and will help me realize how painful it is for the person on the receiving end of the comments. I will remember that intensity and act differently act the next opportunity.

This could be very helpful for people who otherwise would not be exposed to the biases that occur in everyday life.
