This bystander education course will provide employees with an understanding of how interpersonal racism continues to support and maintain systemic racism. Through scenario-based learning, participants will develop skills for recognizing racial bias and confronting discrimination. An overview of related Human Resources policies and practices will be given to support employees in actively dismantling racism within Mass General Brigham.

I think it was crucial and impactful that the scenarios and experiences presented were actual experiences of MGB staff.

The training was timely, as just two days after I completed this training, a resident supervisee brought to me an incident around a patient's overtly biased comments toward and about her as a young doctor of color. The scenario could have been one of those presented, and I was quite aware of my role as someone in a position of relative power to advocate or exacerbate.
