This bystander education course will provide employees with an understanding of how interpersonal racism continues to support and maintain systemic racism. Through scenario-based learning, participants will develop skills for recognizing racial bias and confronting discrimination. An overview of related Human Resources policies and practices will be given to support employees in actively dismantling racism within Mass General Brigham.

The scenario’s were really good examples of racism or what racism could look like in a work environment and showed different ways to address racism in the work place, it was a really good video to watch especially to bring awareness!

I thought the course was very informative, especially opening your eyes to scenarios which you may not even realize you are putting others in. It is important to always be mindful before speaking with someone and make sure equity and inclusion are a top priority.

I really liked the different scenarios shown, it showed not only racism from POC’s point of view but also how racism could be in people’s lives without them realizing it.

I thought it was well put together-- but the implication was that while there are nuances to the experience of ethnic and racial discrimination, that all people who are white or in a place of privilege are essentially coming from the same place.  This leaves out ways that someone may be perceived as white or privileged yet also feel insecure, vulnerable to exclusion or judgment, and even may have an ethnic or racial identity that isn't superficially evident

I like to consider myself a good ally to those that face experiences different than mine, but this had good reminders that the priority should always be on the person who is being negatively impacted first, and my role second.
